The principle of repelling birds with a laser beam is inspired by nature. Birds perceive the approaching laser beam as a physical object. It appeals to the survival instinct, causing the birds to fly away. The continuous presence of the moving laser beam keeps areas free of birds, 24 hours a day.

The Aerolaser Groundflex is equipped with unique safety features, in order to ensure safe operation under all circumstances.

Bird Control Group dedicated years of research to develop the ultimate laser beam. This was accomplished by applying a combination of highly precise optics, filtering and light frequencies. The result is exceptional performance in bird repelling while maintaining safety for both humans and birds.
The Aerolaser Groundflex has a range of more than 2,500 meters. In order to ensure safety and effectiveness, the positioning of the laser beam must be accurate in both the short and long distance. Therefore, the Aerolaser Groundflex is equipped with a Positioning Monitoring and Correction System (PMCS) to ensure military precision with a resolution of 0.003 degrees. The PMCS consists of optical encoders, self calibration system and micro stepper motors. Together with the patented Horizon Safety System (HSS), the PMCS ensures the laser beam is pointed exactly where it needs to. Therefore ensuring a highly safe and effective bird scaring operation.
The patented Horizon Safety System prevents the Groundflex from shining on aircraft, by deactivating the laser above a pre-set angle. The possibility of endangering pilots, passengers and personnel is thereby avoided.
In dedication/devotion to safety, the Aerolaser Groundflex is standard fitted with both local and remote emergency stop functions. The Aerolaser Groundflex can be switched off by an easily accessible emergency stop on top of the system or by a remote controlled stop button with a range of up to 2,500 meter.

By integrating the solar system into a rigid support structure, the frame of the Aerolaser Groundflex can house all system components while ensuring stability for the laser platform even during harsh weather conditions. Every component of the Aerolaser Groundflex is carefully selected to meet high grade industrial quality standards, to ensure years of operation in the field with minimal maintenance.

The essential feature of the Groundflex system consists of the highly accurate and safe laser beam positioning. The Aerolaser Groundflex positions the laser beam in the field with a resolution up to 0.003 degrees in both horizontal and vertical directions. The Horizon Safety System, optical encoders and self calibration features ensure that the laser beam does not drift away from the pre-set positions. This ensures mission critical positioning and market leading safety standards.
To guarantee system uptime, the Aerolaser Groundflex is equipped with Active Maintenance Management. This feature actively keeps track of the operating hours of the critical system components and will notify the user whenever maintenance is required.
The Aerolaser Groundflex is powered by conventional AC power. To enhance its flexibility, the Aerolaser Groundflex is equipped with an additional solar system by default, to enable operation in cases where grid power is not available. The solar system consists of a high performance Lithium-ion power pack, which is charged by integrated solar panels. To ensure system uptime throughout the year, the solar system of the Aerolaser Groundflex is fitted with Adaptive Energy Management, which determines the optimum between energy use and energy harvesting. If higher performance is required during moderate weather conditions, additional solar power can be attached to the Aerolaser Groundflex.
The Dynamic Time Interval (DTI) is designed to prevent habituation, while optimizing energy use for increased system uptime. The DTI makes sure the laser beam sweeps the area in random intervals for optimal clearing of the bird hot spot. As the Groundflex can be powered by solar power, an optimal balance between energy generation and consumption is desired. The DTI helps to achieve this optimal balance by determining the percentage of idle time based on historic battery levels. In this way the Dynamic Time Interval ensures an optimum between repelling effectiveness, energy use and the lifetime of the critical system components. 

 

 

Adjustable nature

The adjustable nature of the Groundflex system requires an easy and fast way to configure the system to the needs of the situation. Therefore up to 100 different zones and time slots can be configured.
The Groundflex system has an intelligent dual-method configuration ability: the Polygon method and the Waypoint method. The Polygon method is used to quickly assign bird-free zones to the Groundflex machine. By locking the corners of the zones, the system automatically calculates the optimal paths for effective bird repelling. If the situation requires highly specific movement of the laser beam, the waypoint method can be used. This allows the user to manually configure the projection path by recording waypoints.
For large airports that deal with extensive bird hotspot areas, the laser projection speed can be adjusted to reduce the laser expose time between the different areas.
The Aerolaser Groundflex automatically adjusts the laser brightness to ambient light conditions, while its bird repelling ability is maintained. Where high laser brightness is required during sunny weather to ensure effective bird repelling, limited brightness is sufficient during dusky and dark weather conditions for bird repelling, thereby saving power and preventing laser nuisance.
Therefore, the adjustable laser brightness feature secures the optimum between effectiveness, energy use and safety.
