Bird control in fishing industry
Both traditional fisheries and the aquaculture industry face challenges that call for efficient bird control. Despite efforts to reduce seabird mortality, thousands of albatrosses and other seabirds die every year as a result of by-catch in fisheries. In the fast growing aquaculture industry great amounts of animal life in one area like shellfish, crustaceans and fish will eventually attract predatory birds.
In collaboration with SaveWave, Bird Control Group developed an innovative and highly specialized laser technology to easily and safely exclude sea ducks, seagulls, cormorants, herons and other nuisance birds from (shell)fish farms, fishing grounds and sea vessels.
The fixed Seabird saver
It is designed to be mounted on a rail or other high vantage point on board. Both sound and laser sources have to be aimed at the desired bird-free zone. In longline fisheries, this would be the prop wash at the stern of the vessel where the baited hooks are set. After positioning, just switch on both systems or choose either laser or sound.

The Agrilaser Handheld
Our handheld lasers provide a highly effective tool for direct intervention. Birds regard the laser beam as a physical threat, causing them to flee. In ideal weather conditions the lasers have a range up to 2500 meters.
The Agrilaser Autonomic
Unlike conventional techniques to dispel birds, habituation does not occur. When our laser technology is applied with repetition, birds will consider the area as unsafe, causing them to avoid the place. Our automated laser systems claim a territory 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
